Details on
Antimony.
Melting point 630.5 °C, boiling 1634 °C. Density 6.69 g/cm3.
Antimony. component of alloys based on lead and tin (for battery plates, typographic fonts, bearings, protective screens for working with sources of ionizing radiation, dishes), based on copper and zinc (for artistic casting).
Antimony is increasingly used in the semiconductor industry in the production of diodes, infrared detectors, devices with the Hall effect. It is a component of lead alloys, increasing their hardness and mechanical strength. The scope includes:
- battery
- antifriction
- printing-alloy
- small arms and tracer bullets
- cable-shell
- matches
- soldering – some lead-free solders contain 5% Sb
- linotype
Together with tin and copper, antimony forms a metal alloy - babbit, which has antifriction properties and is used in slip bearings. Sb is also added to metals intended for fine castings.
