In an iron barrel, a two-layer plastic bag, in which add argon for preservation, 50kg or 100kg for 1 barrel.
Physical and chemical properties
Erbium is a white metal. Hexagonal lattice with parameters a = 0.35588 nm and c = 0.55874 nm. Melting point 1522°C, boiling point 2510°C, density 9,062 kg/dm3.
Stable in the air. When heated, it reacts with oxygen, halogens and other nonmetals. Erbium oxide Er2O3 is obtained by calcination of nitrate, sulfate, oxalate and other erbium salts at a temperature of 800-1000 ° C. It has basic properties, it corresponds to the base Er(OH)3 of medium strength.
Erbium interacts with mineral acids to form erbium(III) salts. Er3+ ions stain the solution pink. Erbium salts soluble in water include chloride, nitrate, acetate and sulfate, poorly soluble - oxalate, fluoride, carbonate and phosphate.
When Er interacts with erbium trihalides, ErHal compounds are formed with clusters Er7Hal10, Er6Hal7 and others.
Application
It is used as an activator of phosphors, for the manufacture of magnetic materials.
It is used in magnetic cooling material, rare earth glowing material, etc.
