Details on
Carbonyl iron.
Carbonyl iron is a fine powder of pure iron, which is prepared by thermal decomposition of iron pentacarbonyl. It is used to prepare a magnetodielectric operating in the frequency range up to 100 MHz. Carbonyl iron is characterized by high particle dispersion, dense structure and round shape of grains without sharp protrusions. The higher the frequency at which the core of the magnetodielectric works, the smaller the grains in the carbonyl iron powder should be.
Grains of carbonyl iron are poorly oxidized. For the insulating ligament of magnetodielectrics based on carbonyl iron, materials soluble in acetone, white spirit are often used. If desired, you can dissolve the binding substance of several cores, and from the obtained powder to make a large core, using paraffin as a binder, epoxy resin.
